Company Profile –
RAD is a global telecom access solutions and products vendor. Our customers are top-tier service providers, power utilities, mass transportation systems, and government agencies. For mobile, business and wholesale service providers, we provide an economical migration path to network edge virtualization. In addition, our Service Assured Access solutions are designed to deliver a competitive edge: better QoE to reduce churn, service agility to minimize time to revenue, complete visibility of network performance for greater operational efficiency, and timing synchronization for LTE/LTE-A and future 5G deployments. We are at the forefront of pioneering technologies, such as: virtual CPE (vCPE), MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0, Carrier Ethernet and IP performance monitoring, hardware miniaturization, and synchronization over packet. Founded in 1981, RAD has an installed base of more than 15 million units. RAD is a member of the $1.3 billion RAD Group of companies, a world leader in communications solutions.
Solution at a Glance
RAD, the industry pioneer of network edge virtualization, provides flexible vCPE toolbox for the customer edge to fit diverse performance, cost and security needs:
- Powerful, carrier-grade vCPE-OS operating system for third-party and RAD platforms
- Universal CPEs (uCPEs) – Carrier Ethernet/IP NIDs with pluggable x86 server modules
- Enhanced white box platforms
- Pluggable smart SFP devices adding connectivity, acceleration and monitoring functionalities to servers
- RADview management and domain orchestration
- D-NFV Alliance: pre-tested VNFs and apps
RAD’s cost-optimized vCPE Toolbox enables business services, from security to routing, SD-WAN to IT services, and more.
An open vCPE-OS combines networking and virtualization on any vCPE device/white box. The Whitebox+ delivers wire-speed uCPE performance while preserving CPU resources for additional VNFs. Pluggable PNFs enhance any white box with MEF 2.0, PM, PDH/SDH/SONET, TDM user interface, 1588 GM, and other capabilities.
Customer Challenges and Benefits
Mainstream uCPE white boxes require some performance and functionality issues to be resolved before they can deliver on their agility and automation promise for carriers. RAD’s vCPE Toolbox significantly reduces operational and capital costs by supporting flexible deployment scenarios and allowing dynamic installation of value added VNFs and applications.
Unique Selling Points and Differentiators
RAD’s vCPE Toolbox helps service providers preserve established network operations procedures and avoid extra boxes. Zero-touch and call-home provisioning allow fast and easy deployment of value added services, while the open architecture of the vCPE-OS operating system is running on third-party white box platforms. Lastly, the pluggable devices enhance white boxes at carrier edge environments and enable deployment of uCPE over Ethernet, Wi-Fi, LTE, DSL, GPON, TDM.
